JEFF GASPIN, DAVID E. KELLEY, IRWIN GOTLIEB AND JUDGE JUDITH SHEINDLIN NAMED RECIPIENTS OF NATPE’S 7TH ANNUAL BRANDON TARTIKOFF LEGACY AWARD

Honors Will Be Presented at NATPE 2010 Market & Conference January 25 in Las Vegas


LOS ANGELES, November 9, 2009 – Jeff Gaspin, David E. Kelley, Irwin Gotlieb and Judge Judith Sheindlin will be honored with the National Association of Television Program Executives (NATPE) 7th Annual Brandon Tartikoff Legacy Award, to be presented on Monday, January 25 during the NATPE 2010 Market & Conference. The announcement was made today by NATPE President & CEO Rick Feldman, and NATPE chair Kevin Beggs, President, Programming & Production, Lionsgate. Jeff Gaspin is Chairman, NBC Universal Television Entertainment, David E. Kelley is an Emmy award-winning screenwriter and television producer, Irwin Gotlieb is the Global Chief Executive Officer of the global media investment management company GroupM, and Judge Judith Sheindlin is presiding judge on “Judge Judy,” the highest-rated daily, half-hour, nationally syndicated reality courtroom series.

Jeff Gaspin, who was promoted to Chairman, NBC Universal Television Entertainment in July 2009, oversees all business, creative, production, distribution and marketing aspects of NBC Universal's wide-ranging entertainment television operations.

v Multi award-winning writer/producer David E. Kelley is the creative mind behind some of America’s most distinctive television series. As creator of the Emmy, Peabody and Golden Globe Award-winning shows “Boston Legal,” “The Practice,” and “Ally McBeal,” the critically acclaimed dramatic series “Boston Public” and “Chicago Hope,” and the multiple award-winning drama series “Picket Fences,” Kelley’s writing and executive-producing style continue to intrigue television viewing audiences.

Honored with four George Foster Peabody Awards, a Television Showmanship Award from the Publicists Guild of America, and the David Susskind Lifetime Achievement Award from the Producers Guild, Kelley was also the subject of a tribute by the Museum of Television and Radio and was named a Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame Honoree.

Having made a name for herself as a tough but fair judge in New York’s Family Court, Judge Judy Sheindlin retired from the bench in 1996 to bring her trademark wit and wisdom to the widely successful series that takes viewers inside a television courtroom where justice is dispensed at lightning speed.

Over the past 12 seasons, the popularity of Judge Judy has transcended daytime television to become part of America’s pop culture. As a result, she has appeared on “Saturday Night Live”; has served as a judge for the 1999 Miss America Pageant; and has been profiled on A&E’s “Biography,” as well as been interviewed in major national publications such as the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, USA Today, Family Circle and People to name a few.

The Brandon Tartikoff Legacy Award celebration is sponsored by Broadcasting & Cable and Multichannel News and NBC Universal. The honorees were selected by NATPE's Executive Committee.
